Developing a Policy for Covering Sensitive Topics in the Media
Within this training, participants will explore tools and approaches that enable the creation of inclusive, ethically balanced, and responsible media practices. Special attention will be given to working with topics related to the LGBTQ community in Belarus, considering both the informational and human context.
Participants will learn to understand the key principles of inclusive journalism, including language that avoids discrimination and reflects respect for gender and sexual diversity; to identify which topics may be sensitive or potentially traumatic and how to address them with respect for both protagonists and audiences; to develop unified editorial policies that help media teams make well-considered decisions in complex situations; and to analyse specific cases (including in the Belarusian context) in order to gain practical skills and confidence in working with vulnerable groups.
